Sun Moon Crow

The "Sun Moon Crow" is an intaglio print that I made about a year after visiting the folk artist James Harold Jennings in North Carolina in 1992. James always included symbols of the sun, moon, and stars in his signature on his artwork. When I asked him the reason, he replied that it was because the sun, moon, and stars were the most powerful forces in the universe.

I have also always had a fascination with old maps, particularly the artistry and symbols used in hand-drawn maps and the common use of the sun in compass roses.

The sun, moon, and crow can be found grouped together and individually on numerous items at the Scratch House Cafe Press shop: several shirts, a sun tile box, sun stein mug, black cap, several small stickers, and a mini poster print.
